“Please help me persuade First Great Western Railway to clean up Station Parade, Hayes incl. improving the street lighting outside” – Chris J Brady

Description

Chris J Brady

Following the stabbing of a 15 year-old youth by a gang of older teenagers outside the Station, many have opined that the area around the Station, and the Station itself is an utter disgrace. Specifically the area outside the new entrance / exit to Hayes Station in Station Parade is a appalling. There is always litter blowing around there, there over-flowing wheelie bins, general domestic and industrial rubbish, cars are parked on the pavements, sometimes there are threatening yoofs in the dimly lit underpass, and the lighting on the turning circle is grossly inadequate. Please liaise with Hillingdon Council, Network Rail, First Great Western, and High Point Village to sort this area out and make it less threatening. The area lacks CCTV (which Hillingdon Council may offer to pay for but which Network Rail refuses to discuss). The area is especially unsafe in the early mornings, early evenings, and late at night - yet it is one of the major entrances / exits to the Station. There has already been a mugging there between the Station and Tescos.

In Station Parade just outside the entrance / exit to Hayes & Harlington Station platform 4 there are at least three wheelie bins. They are over-flowing with food and other rubbish spilling out heaped onto the ground. Rats have been seen in the area.

This is a disgraceful state of affairs - ESPECIALLY since I have raised complaints about this area MANY TIMES before. The wheelie bins are clearly marked L.B. Hillingdon - so they belong to the Council, AND SHOULD BE EMPTIED BY THE COUNCIL.

Since these bins are ALWAYS full to over-flowing it is quite obvious that the Council is not emptying them AS IT SHOULD BE DOING.

ALSO in the same row of rear exits there is considerable leakage of running water cascading from under a door and across the pavement presumably from an over-flowing sewage outlet. There is quite a healthy - or rather unhealthy - green growth of algae there, so the flow of water has been extant for some considerable time.

This area is an utter disgrace and I blame both Hillingdon Council and Network Rail for failing to clean the area up.

AND the two lights in Station Parade are STILL out despite my reporting them at least 5 times.

    Dear Mr Brady

Thank you for your email of 3 October. I really am very sorry that it's taken us so long to get back to you. I thank you for your patience, though.

As you are aware, the bins at Hayes are Council owned and thus should be emptied by them, but you're right, we have a duty of care to make sure the station and its surroundings are clean and tidy. We will work alongside the local Council to achieve this.

We will also look into the leaking pipe and the lights.

Thank you again for highlighting these issues with us; I know it's not the first time, but we will make every effort to ensure that things improve.

    Yours sincerely
