“Please help me persuade Transport for London to fix this: Too infrequent.” – Mr Sean

Description

Mr Sean

I live in Muswell Hill, 10 minutes away from Hampstead by car, but over an hour away by bus. The 603 (double decker) bus runs twice in the morning and twice mid afternoon. Surely one or two more buses could be put on during the day or in the evening? (Maybe use a single decker?).

Working at or even visiting the Royal Free hospital is impossible using public transport.

    Dear Sir

Thank you for your email requesting additional journeys on route
    603.

All bus routes are reviewed regularly as part of the
re-tendering of the service contracts.  This ensures that the
bus routes remain fit for purpose and continue to provide value
for money.  The latest review of the 603 concluded that an
increase in frequency or extension to the hours of operation
    could not be justified.

The design of the 603 service is to provide for travel from the
Muswell Hill/Highgate areas to the schools on Fitzjohn’s
Avenue.  Although the demand is in one direction only, depending
on if the journey is to or from schools, the service runs in
both directions in response to calls for direct links between
Muswell Hill and Swiss Cottage.  Running the return journey ‘in
service’ has minimal cost implications.  People can also use the
existing bus routes in the area, many of which parallel sections
of the 603.  Whilst they will need to change buses to complete
their journeys these are often at the same stop, and nearly all
the services used are high frequency.

We will continue to monitor the local bus network to ensure we
are meeting the needs of local residents and bus users.  The
aspiration for an enhanced bus service on the 603 will be
considered again in future network reviews.  However, any change
will need to provide Transport for London and the travelling
public with the best value for money.

Thank you again for your enquiry.

    Yours faithfully
