Description

Brett Bennett-Smith

Greenland Pier needs an upgrade. It is dirty, damaged and badly maintained by the local council.
- Missing window panes need to be replaced
- It needs a thorough clean
- New flooring as per Canary Wharf pier
- CCTV camera fixed (It seems broken and obviously not acting as a deterrent for those breaking the windows)
- Tourism boards need replacing/upgrading

Here is the letter that Brett Bennett-Smith wrote.

    Dirty and damaged

Greenland Pier is in serious need of a good clean and repair work on missing window panes. The CCTV camera does not look like it works and is not acting as a deterrent. The visitor guide boards to the area are so faded you cannot read them.

    hi Brett,

Good luck with your campaign. If you happen to be round and about with your camera in the near future, you could illustrate it with some photos to really get the point home.

    Dear Mr Bennett-Smith,

I write in response to your recent communication concerning the
    condition of Greenland pier.

Greenland pier is owned by the Southwark Council.

We are aware of the council’s plans to overhaul the pier this
winter and information is posted on the council’s website.

I have passed your email to the council for their information
    and attention.

That sounds like good news - Brett, you might like to mark this one 'fixed'? Or at least it will be.

It looks like it is being fixed then! Hooray]]]]]]

  • 8 Brett Bennett-Smith commented close 19:11 03 Feb 2012

This has actually failed spectacularly. Southwark Council have decided to close the pier (or demand Thames Clippers cease use of it, which is effectively closing it) on 28th February 2012. This is a disaster for local residents.
