FixMyTransport: Improve local bus drivers driving in Shepway

At 13.10 hours on 28th January 2012, I came out of Ahsley Avenue on to Cheriton High Street going towards army camp way, as I was starting to go past a empty bus tail end, the bus pulled off from the bus stop, I was by then along the middle of the bus and I had to go over the other side of the road and increase speed to get past to avoid the bus hitting my car.
The bus did not stop and by then I manage to get past and get back on to the correct side of the road.
Lucky for me the traffice was clear due to a ambulance going through the traffic lights at the COOP cross roads and the traffic stopped to let the ambulance through, this happend in seconds.
The bus driver did not stop at all and he turned in to Sommer set road Cheriton.
I was unable to get details as by then the traffic got busy.
I would like this to be investigated, this could of caused a accident, the driver must of not looked at his side mirror to pull out and was more interested to go of shift, or he had a blind spot and could not see me, but when I was along the side of him going past he would of by then and should of stop, I could not as I was on the wrong side of the road and traffic by hind me.

Here is the letter that Mr C.Capel wrote.

FixMyTransport admin here. I've removed your personal email address from this public web page. As it happens, there is no need to include it, since any reply comes directly into your email inbox, as you'll have seen.

Also, I've forwarded your message on to Stagecoach. The reason for it being sent to the council is that you reported the incident as happening at a bus stop (responsibility of the council) rather than on the route (bus company). I can quite understand why, and we're working on making this distinction clearer.

I hope Stagecoach reply soon with a decent response, and I'd also advise you to take up the suggestion of making a report to the police.

that occured on Cheriton High Street on 28th January 2012. I am
very sorry that you have found cause to complain.

I am always most concerned to receive reports of poor driving
standards. Clearly the safety of our passengers and other road
users is our first concern and must not be compromised at any
time. I have now had the chance to investigate this matter and
from the information you have provided, I have identified the
driver of the bus in question and you may rest assured that he
will be required to account for his actions. I have also
requested the CCTV footage from the bus which may help my
enquiry.

Please accept my most sincere apology for this regrettable
incident and my thanks for taking the time to bring the matter
to my attention.

I am always most concerned to receive reports of poor driving
standards. Clearly the safety of our passengers and other road
users is our first concern and must not be compromised at any

from the information you have provided, I have identified the
driver of the bus in question and you may rest assured that he
will be required to account for his actions. I have also
requested the CCTV footage from the bus which may help my
enquiry.

I made a complaint to Stage coach about a bus driver driving off and forceing me to drive on the opposite side of the road as I come out of Ashley Avenue.

Stage coach has explained they will look in to this?

I have had no feed back at all and we are now at the end of March, they said they will look at the cctv camera in the vehicle.

This could of caused a serious accident.

Please look in to this as you give them a licence to drive these vehciles.

Thank you for the reply back, I did not recive the last email I am sure.

I am not one for getting people in to trouble, is there any way we can prevent this from happning again, I do feel strongley that the bus stops where they are, are to close to Ashley Avenue for allowing cars comeing out.

Would you be able to ask the local council to move the bus stop further down, or further up, this will prevent other drivers from having incidents.

Dear Danny Millis

I agree this has been in situ for some years, but this doe's not mean it is safe now.

All near or actuall incidents should be assessed by risk assessments and esculated and put on a risk registra and reported to higher authoritesif class as a high risk.

Also this does not mean the incidents have been reported to you in the past.

Your vehicles have got longer, the traffic for this area has increased, these are just some of the environment changes since the bus stop was put in place for this area.

I would be greatful for you to investigate with the council if required, the council should be informed, due to a member of public incident on the highway.
