“Please help me persuade Transport for London to improve the frequency/service of W3 buses,” – james scott

Description

james scott

This service is very badly regulated in the mornings (from 7am onwards). You will have 2 buses running within 3 minutes of eachother and then on average an 10 minute gap between most of the buses. I suggests the service should be regulated to run a consistent 5 minute intervals.

    Dear Sir

Thank you for your feedback raising concerns about the W3 being
    poorly regulated from 7am onwards.

I am sorry this service is considered unreliable.  We have
looked into the points raised and are now in a position to
    respond.

The network is monitored to identify those routes that are
failing to perform to the standards we expect.  This enables us
to work with our operators to improve the level of service
    delivered to our customers.

Buses on this route are scheduled to run every 4 to 8 minutes
between 7am and 8pm.  As this is a high frequency route the
emphasis is on ensuring the buses run at evenly spaced intervals
rather than arriving at bus stops at specific times.  Timetables
are planned to take instances of disruption into account.
However, since traffic conditions can change suddenly, services
    can be disrupted.

When buses run close one another it is usually caused by
unpredictable traffic conditions, resulting in buses
experiencing different journey times.  For example, if a bus is
delayed by just two minutes, there may be 50% more passengers
waiting to get on the bus than expected.  This means the bus
will spend more time at bus stops.  Meanwhile, the following bus
is picking up 50% fewer passengers and is spending less time at
bus stops. The process then snowballs and buses will soon be
much closer together than we would like.  Please be assured that
our route controllers work hard to prevent this from happening
    where possible.

We have contacted Arriva who operate route W3.  Unfortunately,
services have been subject to disruption due to road works at
various sections of the route.  These include: Alexandra Palace
Way, White Hart Lane and the Westway.  The operator will make
sure its buses are as evenly spaced as possible.

Bus services are an important part of public transport and we do
our best to provide a service our customers can have confidence
in.  We will continue to monitor this route and take action
where appropriate to ensure that our customers receive an
    efficient and reliable service.

Thank you again for your feedback.

    Yours faithfully
