“Please help me persuade Transport for London to improve Walthamstow Central this summer” – Simon Brandon

Description

Simon Brandon

The Victoria Line is due to close between Walthamstow and Seven Sisters for nearly three weeks this August (2015). Whilst disruptive, this will provide Walthamstow with a greatly increased frequency of trains and reduce the need to wait for a non-seven sisters train.

Walthamstow is, however, already over-crowded, with passengers ariving in the evening peak taking at least five minutes just to reach the ticket gates. This problem will only get worse as Walthamstow expands, indeed this is one reason why the increased frequency is all too welcome. The over-crowding could be greatly reduced if fixed middle staircase were converted into an escalator that could change direction depending on the time of day. As there will be no trains running for three weeks over the summer, this would seem to be an ideal time to carry out such works and would better prepare the station for the increased passenger flow.

I would therefore encourage TfL to pursue these works, which would represent an excellent example of joined-up planning, avoiding greater problems and resource drains in the near future.

Regards,

    Dear Miria,

Further to your email below, have you had any feedback from the group station manager on whether the escalator works at Walthamstow Underground might be possible?
