“Please help me persuade East Midlands Trains to increase the frequency of Service from Bottesford” – Chris Jesson

Description

Chris Jesson

This is an item to address concerning the requirement for more services at Bottesford on the Nottingham to Skegness line - the existing service is punctual but not enough trains call at this station.

In December 2008 train services on some village stations on the Nottingham to Skegness line were reduced by East Midlands Trains despite strong evidence to suggest their patronage was increasing. However, a priority was placed on town stations to increase the train service even if patronage was not overly high.

In particular I cannot understand why, during those timetable changes of recent years, Bingham received an upgraded service to hourly while Bottesford continues with a 2 hourly service, and a reduction to only 1-2 services in each direction on a Sunday. This is despite ongoing increases to over 50,000 annual users at Bottesford compared to marginal increases to just over 30,000 users at Bingham. It seems ludicrous to not increase trains at a station with all the evidence to suggest it has the catchment area and loyalty to merit an hourly frequency, one that also has no other public transport links to Nottingham. By comparison, Heckington further up the line near Sleaford has similar usage to Bottesford on an hourly service.

On over 80% of Skegness trains I take there are people getting on/off at Bottesford and on some trains there are over 20-25 people alighting/joining here; I cannot apply the same figure to Bingham or other stations. Aslockton also had increases prior to its own rail cuts causing a drop in users. By all means, the other stations should retain their level of service or close monitoring kept at standards.

Even more people would use the service from Bottesford if it is hourly and with a more coherent Sunday offering.

Please support this.

    Hi Chris,

I've set up an email for you if you'd like to contact the Grantham Journal, your local paper - I think they might be interested in covering your story.

You can edit or rewrite the text - it's just a suggestion - or you can hold off sending it until you've had a reply from East Midlands if you prefer.

    Good luck!

    Myf Nixon
