“Please help me persuade Brighton & Hove Bus and Coach Company to increase the number of 81 buses running on a Sunday” – Myf Nixon

Myf Nixon

Since city-centre shops and amenities are open on Sundays, buses are in demand as much as they are on Saturdays. They tend to be over-packed on Sundays. I'd like the frequency of the 81 route to reflect this.

More 81 buses on a Sunday

Would it be possible to increase the frequency of 81 buses on a Sunday?

As city-centre shops and most other facilities are open, there are just as many people using the route on a Sunday as on a Saturday. The Sunday buses are often over-packed.

Thank you for your email. We do appreciate that the frequency of service
81 on Sundays could be better, however as the timetable of this route on
Sundays is stipulated by Brighton & Hove City Council, any changes and
improvements to the timetable have to be done in conjunction with them.
Almost all buses on service 81 on a Sunday should be double-deckers in
order to ensure there is enough space for those travelling; however,
longer term, we do really want to improve the level of service through
Queens Park on a Sunday as we do recognise that just 2 buses per hour on
Sundays, as opposed to 8 on weekdays, is not ideally sufficient and so
we are now carefully considering how we can go about this, and your
feedback in this respect is much appreciated.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to get in touch.

    Yours sincerely

The route is stipulated by the council, but they really do want to improve the level of service on the route, which is great to hear.
Most 81s on Sundays are double deckers to cope with the extra demand.

It was an encouraging reply, but the frequency of the 81 bus on a Sunday has not yet increased.
