Description

Kathy Ridges

Can you please tell me why the waiting rooms are always locked in the evening? Could someone not open it for passengers?

    Dear Sir or Madam

Thank you for your email which we received a short while ago.

In regards to your correspondence, I have called Berkhamsted
station and they have informed me that the waiting room is
closed 20-30 minutes before the ticket staff are due to leave
the station.  On week days this is usually around 19:30,
unfortunately as there is no one manning the ticket office after
this time, no one is available to reopen the waiting room.

I appreciate this is not the news you wish to hear and I
apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

    Kind Regards

    Hi Ranveer Kaur,

Thank you for your email. Why can staff not leave the waiting room open for passengers? This would solve the problem.

Berkhamsted Station replied to my email saying the waiting room is shut at 19:30 when staff go home. I have asked that the waiting room be left open.

  • 8 Kathy Ridges asked for advice. close 12:38 01 Jun 2013

How can I persuade Berkhamsted station to lave the waiting room open when staff leave the premises please?

  • 9 Peter Dixon commented close 15:18 02 Jun 2013

    Hello Kathy

I am one of the FixMyTransport volunteers

It is a difficult task to persuade the operators to keep the waiting rooms open. The lack of supervision creates a difficult situation that can be almost impossible to supervise. This can include supervision and evacuation in case of an incident. As a result, operator prefer to close them because they cannot afford the risks should an incident that causes damage could occur.

It would be preferable to ask for better waiting facilities when the waiting rooms are closed.

    Dear Sir or Madam

Thank you for your correspondence received a short while ago.

The fact that the station was unmanned is the reason why the
waiting rooms were closed. Unfortunately we have been forced to
close the waiting rooms when the station is unmanned due to
    repetitive vandalism.

I appreciate that this may not be the response you were hoping
for, but I hope I have helped clarify the situation.

    Kind Regards
