“Please help me persuade First Great Western Railway to lack of luggage space” – Jean Chenery

Description

Jean Chenery

We boarded the train at Exeter St. David's in coach D, I think the train began it's journey from Penzance, when we boarded all luggage storage space was full and suitcases had been stacked up against the exit doors on the right hand side of the train. When you are travelling with a young family safety is foremost in your mind and I was concerned that this exit was blocked. Maybe when booking people are asked the amount of luggage they will have and you could provide a couple of compartments with extra luggage space and seat these people in these carriages.

    Dear Jean

Thank you for contacting us via FixMyTransport.com about your journey from Exeter St Davids. I am sorry you feel the luggage storage facilities on our High Speed Trains are inadequate.

Most of the time the luggage racks at the end of each carriage, the overhead racks and the spaces under the seats are adequate for storage. Space is however limited and on particularly busy services we may ask passengers to store larger items of luggage in the Guard's van if they are travelling to the train's destination.

We don't always have the option to strengthen our trains to provide additional space, so when our trains become busy we have to limit the number of luggage items we can carry. To help with this we have teamed up with a special luggage service, Carry My Luggage, which is particularly popular with customers travelling longer distances. Full details of this service can be found on our website.

Thank you once again for contacting us, I hope you enjoy future journeys with First Great Western.

    Yours sincerely
