“Please help me persuade Stagecoach in Huntingdonshire to make ALL buses wheelchair accessible” – Laurie Carroll Paschal

Description

Laurie Carroll Paschal

I am currently riding on the 65 bus from St Neots to Huntingdon. I find it absolutely appalling that in this day and age all buses are not wheelchair friendly. My son has Duchenne muscular dystrophy and uses a wheelchair. It is particularly disturbing that a bus that services a hospital (Hinchingbrooke) does not accommodate wheelchairs. It's pure luck that my son is still small enough to lift and carry on and that he's still in a manual chair that folds as opposed to a power chair that does not. We are new still to the area and do not own a vehicle. We rely on public transportation. Since the St Neots train station does not have a lift, buses are important to our ability to travel. I do hope you will take this matter under serious consideration.

    Hi Laurie

    FixMyTransport volunteer here.

It is frustrating that many buses are still not wheelchair accessible. The good news is that legislation has set in place a deadline between 2015 and 2017 for buses to become wheelchair accessible, with coaches to follow by 2020. It is frustrating though and I hope that Stagecoach can offer you a reasonable idea of when this route will gain wheelchair accessible buses.

    Kind regards
