    Hello Dawn,

I'm sorry you are in this situation, unfortunately this is the reality of the present government's agenda of cutting spending, which has left councils with very hard choices. many supported buys services are now being axed to try and preserve even more essential services.

It might be worth writing to Lincolnshire County Council to see if there is some way a limited evening bus service could be provided. Also see if there are other people in Ingoldmells wo are similarly affected and start a campaign to get your evening buses back.

"We're all in this together" - hardly - when did you last see David Cameron and George Osborne on a bus?

    Hello Dawn,

Julian's right: your local council has a duty to subsidise public transport, especially in the case of routes which are not economical for the operators to run. So it will be worth making your voice heard.

I'm giving you the email address of your county councillor, who has a responsibility for ensuring that public transport is adequate for his constituents' needs. If you tell him it is not working for you, he should lend his support. I'll also send you a more generic email address for the county council in a mo.

    Good luck!

    Hi Dawn,
And here is the email address for your county council - you can basically write the same message to them as you put on this page, and let them know you've also contacted Stagecoach.
    Good luck!

    Hello,

The Winter evening Service was a Tendered Service financially
supported by Lincolnshire County Council.  In April this year
Lincolnshire County Council made the decision to withdraw the
Tender as part of the Authorities budget revisions.  The Tender
was only for the Winter element of the timetable, therefore the
effect has only been realised when the Winter Schedules came
    into effect in November,

i have wrote to a few councillors in my area, one of which has agreed to raise the subject at the next council meeting, i understand the councill was paying for this service , but stagecoach surely can compromise with a small service, we dont complain when the buses are full and locals cant get on, or when they run late in peak holiday season,

to whom it may concern, i would like to tell you how upset i`am at the recent bus cuts to our local area, it has left many workers stranded in skegness not able to get home or for some even getting to work is an issue, it leaves non drivers feeling trapped in on an evening, as a mother i cannot take my children to events for eg,
late night shopping, christmas lights switch on, cinema and embassy theatre shows, the last bus from skegness to some of our small but important communities is 7.15pm, i have wrote to my local councillors and to stagecoach, i dont think we are asking too much just a small service .
    thanks dawn watson.

    Good Evening,

Stagecoach operate the evening services on this route. The summer service makes a profit for stagecoach but the user numbers in the winter months are very low and therefore, as a business the service is not financially viable. The County Council has subsidised bus services in Lincolnshire using tax payers money but because of the economic mess this government inherited there is less money available to continue with this. What money is available has been directed to those services that have much higher need and demand from the community.
For your information the average number of passengers on the evening service ranged between 3 and 16 passengers and for the Sunday service the number of passengers ranged from 5 to 25.
The taxpayer subsidy required for the evening service is £9775 for the winter period. Each Sunday service needs a taxpayer subsidy of £371.07p for it to be run by Stagecoach.
The county council has had to find reductions of some £180 Million from its budgets and as you will appreciate delivering social services and education and roads have to be regarded as the highest of priorities.
If user numbers were higher there may be a stronger argument to make but because the evening service is not well used it is difficult to put forward a strong argument for a continuing subsidy.

Stagecoach should really provide a service all year round, using profits from the summer to support the winter services but as everything is about profit is it right to expect the taxpayer to subsidise the profits of a private company.

Im sorry I cannot be more supportive but if the service was better supported in the evening then this problem would not have arisen. The taxpayer can no longer be expected to pay for every service that people would like but is not financially viable. if there is enough demand then hopefully a private company with a minibus facility could be convinced to provide an evening service. I think someone is looking into this.

    Regards

    Cllr Colin Davie

Goodness, that is quite a disappointing email from your Councillor, Dawn, although I do follow his thinking.

We should wait and see what the council and Stagecoach themselves say, but if at all possible, I'd also look at some ways of getting your local neighbours to add their names to this page. This URL will also come to your campaign page, and is easier to remember:

    http://tinyurl.com/ingoldmells

The more support you can show there is, the stronger your case. Maybe put up posters in the community hall, post office or anywhere else relevant.

Another place that you should look at is the Campaign for Better Transport. They're collecting details of cut bus services at the moment:

    http://www.bettertransport.org.uk/campaigns/save-our-buses/cuts-watch

Then finally there is Travelwatch West Midlands - I'll dig out their email address for you in a sec.

Ah, Travel Watch West Midlands only have a form, not an email address - you can contact them here:

    http://www.travelwatcheastmidlands.org.uk/contactus/contacts.asp

"We really do welcome your views. Please complete the form below to send us your thoughts on any aspect of public transport in the East Midlands region, your operating company or indeed this site. Note that we have no statutory powers so can't promise to resolve any particular issue."

All the same, they should be able to give you some advice, as they have been campaigning on transport issues for a while.

i would like to thank everyone for their continued support, including our councillors and that they have replied, i do understand that the country and countys are in financial difficulties but i think every household is feeling the same, but surely the businesses in skegness and other towns along this route are affected, for eg the embassy theatre in skegness , a great night out for familys, but with shows in an evening they must be down on numbers, i look forward to any change in this service even if it is only small / skeleton service/mini bus . again thankyou all.x

Dave H (http://www.fixmytransport.com/profiles/dave-h) has sent a comment in by email:

Elsewhere in lincolnshire the Lincoln - Skegness service was speeded up by not driving round every small village and using a direct route along the main road, with local passengers offered a small number of dial a ride/taxi-bus services or the option of getting to the bus under their own steam over a slightly longer route than than the average walk-to stop.

The old service used old tired buses, and needed a subsidy. The revised system getting the passenger to the bus at a lower cost than getting the bus to the passenger has seen patronage grow (the direct services are faster and competitive with driving in to Lincoln or Skegness) and the service is now fully commercial and likely to double in frequency with new buses. The old subsidy was being used to then fund the smaller feeder services.

One way to deliver is to work with local transport (short shared trips with village based taxi operator to bus route, or cycling (and carrying bikes on the buses)). Take a look at how you might address the problem in a different way. One Scottish newsagent provided a morning commuter bus service by using a minibus to deliver the bread, milk, and newspapers to the village shops and local hotels, with an early trip from town which conveniently returned at an ideal time for workers to get in to work.

TAXI drivers are considering ways to fill the void left by bus service cuts in the Skegness area. Operators believe a special service could help the stranded passengers outraged by Stagecoach’s reduction to evening and weekend services on the coast. Jason Proud owns a 14-seater minibus and intends to set up a dial-a-ride style service through areas hardest hit by the cuts. Interested passengers are requested to contact him with times and locations they need to travel so he can assess when and where there is greatest demand. Ingoldmells resident Dawn Watson said: “We’ve done a petition, a facebook page and sent a letter to the local MP, so we were wondering where we go from here. It’s nice to see that someone is willing to step in and offer something like this as a compromise.” l To contact Jason about using his scheme call 07800 500293.

this problem has not been sorted by either stagecoach or our local council,we was promised a council meeting to discuss this matter but this has been very slow in happening, dont hold much hope for the rest of this winter season, and do not look forward to next winter if nothing is to happen, we are told to use public transport to help the enviroment, but how can we do that when services are taken away .
