Richard Stevens

WE've got the trains back. We've got the Help line working again. We've waited patiently for the Passenger Information Boards. So let's now have some seats on platform 1

Problem History

Here is the letter that Richard Stevens wrote.

Lack of seating on platform 1

Stone Station is a fantastic success story with hundreds of passengers using it every day. The recent passenger information boards are a great help. BUT how long do we have to wait for seats to be installed on platform 1 so that passengers can wait in comfort for their train.

    Yes please!

suggestion - why not tell to see if they can help us campaign...

  • 5 Richard Stevens commented close 13:09 31 Aug 2011

Thanks, Anna. I'm fairly certain that A Little Bit of Stone will pick up on this campaign from a tweet that I sent this morning. But I'll drop him a reminder later if he doesn't! Thanks for your support

We're looking to see what we can do. I'm not sure if anyone approached us directly first - much simpler than a petition!

  • 7 Anna Smith commented close 02:27 02 Sep 2011

I wrote to London Midland last year directly about the broken helpline, and got a very detailed and pleasant response which essentially said "we might fix it one day, but not any time soon".

But after the local paper got involved, it suddenly magically got fixed!

    Dear Mr Stevens

    Thank you for your e-mail.

In response to your query I can confirm that there is a large step up into
the shelter with seats in the shelter on Platform 1.

I hope I have been able to answer your query. Thank you for taking the
    time to contact us.

    Yours sincerely,

Hi Richard - I'm going to go into Stone this afternoon to visit the farmers market. Whilst I'm there I'm going to check out the bench situation at the station, to be clear about platform numbers and seating. Would you be around this afternoon, perhaps for a coffee? - Tom

Tom, Sorry not to have picked up your comment until now. Was busy at Eccleshall Show yesterday. Did you have chance to check it out? I'm popping round later to see what the position is.

  • 11 Tom Steinberg commented close 11:53 08 Sep 2011

    Hi Richard,

I went to the station, and found that it's actually platform 2 - Southbound - that doesn't have the seat. This is the platform I use most often, is it the one you meant? I would certainly support the idea of having seating here. Why should only people going to Stoke get a seat?

    - Tom

Tom, You're right! I have always assumed that the platform next to the station was numbered 1. So the campaign has now changed to getting a seat on Platform 2! I assume I'll have to start a new posting to get it to the attention of London Midland again.

Hi Richard! I can change the title of the page to 'platform 2' for you if you like - and if you reply to your last email from London Midland, it'll get to them and this page as well. Or you can start a new page if you'd prefer a blank canvas - up to you. :)

Hi folks. I've just added a new campaign to get seating on Platform 2! Anna, thanks for mentioning A Little Bit of Stone! I was a bit slow on the uptake on this one ;) Tom, hope you're well. Fancy a coffee in town soon?

Not sure if a link will work, but here is the new campaign:

  • 16 London Midland commented close 14:39 05 Oct 2011

Good new folks - we've been to Stone and found a lovely spot for a nice new bench on platform 2. There is quite a long lead time from the manufacturers for such things, but the good news is that you will at last have somewhere to sit!

  • 17 Tom Steinberg commented close 14:48 05 Oct 2011

That's fantastic news - it will make spending time waiting for the train to Stafford much more pleasant. Thanks for engaging so constructively.

Any idea how long 'a long lead time' is, by the way?

    Thanks London Midland!

Just to confirm that two seats were installed a month ago! At a meeting of Friends of Stone Station earlier this week, the London Midland representative confirmed that this request on this website had been the reason for the immediate installation! What a result and a big 'Thank You' to London Midland.

I think this is why London Midland (the one with the picture when they post) is way out ahead as a user of social media - good on yer DW!
