Description
Sarah Bryson
I am a disabled person with mobility problems who lives on Coronation Rd. The 500 was a lifeline to the General, BRI, train station, Hotwells Rd, etc. Myself and other passengers are now dependent on lifts and taxis (not affordable) to be able to meet appointments/socialise. I know the service is greatly missed. I just hope reistating the service can be considered.

hi have met my father for the past 3 years for lunch every sat in broadmead. Last weekend i waited in the usual spot only to find out later that the bus stop had changed and myself and family were looking for him for 2 1/2 hrs you can't imagine the stress and worry of not being able to find your 82yrs old father. He eventually got a taxi home where managed to contact him by phone as he would not use a mobile. Do the bus company not understand the confusion this has caused the elderly by taking off the 500 loop bus route.
Please reinstate and give some peace of mind to the elderly.

Thanks for your support Joan, and everyone else who thinks the bus route should be reinstated. I'm really sorry to hear that the cessation of the bus route caused so much stress for you and your family. Again, this is the type of story I am hearing from so many people. Therefore, I can only stress for people to support and contact the Council with your thoughts on the subject. It only takes enough people to voice their opinions to show the need for the route is still there. As yet no further progress has been made with the Council. Thanks to everyone again for taking the time to add your support.

Hi Sarah, did you know that you can get the Bristol Ferry Boat Co from Hotwells to the City Centre, and other points for access to the places you have mentioned? Even as far as Temple Meads.
There are landing stations at The Cottage, Nova Scotia and Pumphouse and the ferry runs daily all year round. A single is only £1.90/ £1.70 conc. and provides a lovely and calm way to travel through Bristol avoiding the traffic!
The first boat from Hotwells leaves at 10:50 and runs every 40mins from then (every 20mins in the Summer). Be sure to check us out if you find yourself stuck down that end of town - we are fun, friendly and efficient!
Hope we can be of assistance - see you on the water!

I forgot to mention that we do have a ferry with a wheelchair lift (Brigantia) in case anybody has difficultly accessing the boats. Bristol Ferry Boat Co has the only ferry in the docks with this option. If you call our friendly staff we would be delighted to tell you whether it is available on the day and do whatever we can to make it available if it isn't!
Thanks,

Hi Sarah,
No reply from the council yet, I see. I'm going to suggest two things - that you write to the local paper, and that you get your local councillor involved.
Of course, these are only suggestions, but I think you have a valid issue here which deserves a wider audience.
I've drafted an email to the Bristol Evening Post for you below - you can edit it or overwrite it, or simply ignore it if you prefer. I'll also be back with your local councillor's details in a short while.
Good luck!

And this is the email address of Tess Green, who is one of two local councillors (the other is Sean Benyon if you'd like to email him too - his email address is sean.beynon@bristol.gov.uk).
Your local councillors are responsible for ensuring that public transport is adequate for their constituents, so this will be a matter of interest to them and one on which they ought to be able to help you.
I hope you'll feel you'd like to drop one or both of them a line.
