“Please help me persuade Arriva Trains Wales to remove the pending traffic lights in Pontarddulais.” – Curon Davies

Description

Curon Davies

The City and County of Swansea have decided without adequate thought to situate a set of traffic lights near at the entrance to the Pontarddulais train station car park where there is adequate room for a mini-roundabout. Due to the location of the stop line on one road access to the car park access will be heavily restricted along with ergess due to a proposed no right turning, which will disincentivise the use of the car park and potentially the train station, thus I request that a formal objection be submitted citing conflict of interest with developers of the new road and that a roundabout would not cause this inconvenience.

Interesting, Curon - I wonder if you'll get a reply saying that it's a matter for the council. If so, we can forward your message on, but let's wait and see.

    Dear Mr Davies

Thank you for your e-mail which has been received via
    FixmyTransport.com.

Receiving feedback from our customers is important to us, and I
am grateful for you taking time to report these issues.

However, the problems you have reported do not appear to relate
to the facilities managed by Arriva Trains Wales, but rather
changes to the layout of the public road near Pontarddulais
station which presumably is the responsibility of the local
    authority.

I would recommend you redirect your query as appropriate, and I
am sorry I was not able to help further.

    Yours sincerely

Look mate i do think that you should seek advice before posting such stage objections. You have wated everyones time.

These lights aren't pending any more and are proving to be and ABSOLUTE TRAFFIC NIGHTMARE up Fforest Hill during busy times - cars are now queueing for 15-20 minutes since they were introduced on Monday.

This is being compounded by the recent change from juction to roundabout at the Black Lion is now giving free flow to traffic from the M4/LLanelli direction - almost halting the traffic from Fforest in its tracks due to the delays caused by the 4-way (only one road at a time) insanity that the new lights have been configured.

Please turn them off and re-think this junction and roundabout configuration - it's a mess and utter chaos as its now been implemented.

Further to previous messages it should be noted that this relates to the direct access and egress to the car park at this station. Further to this a no right turning sing has been erected illegally by the council, as there is no Traffic Regulation Order for such a sign on the exit of the car park managed by yourself. As such I request that you object to this directly, as other local businesses are co-operating with such action against the Council.

I believe that the contact details for the relevant department is networkmanagement@swansea.gov.uk

Unfortunately FixMyTransport does not include a feature enabling complaints regarding the road network, I believe FixMyStreet may be relevant, but isn't quite what this site is intended for.

As correctly noted by Hywel, this is causing delays on the A48 from the Fforest to Pontarddulais at peak times due to the traffic priority at the new roundabout between the Black Horse and Red Lion. The roundabout was without issue when it was recently installed, but due to the activation of the lights it has caused problems.

Guidelines from the Department for Transport does stipulate that if there is adequate space for a roundabout, then such a configuration should take preference over traffic lights, which are known to be environmentally unfriendly.

As stipulated in my reply to Arriva Trains Wales, there is no Traffic Regulation Order for any changes imposed at this location, which is a legal requirement before imposing such changes, as such I recommend all contact networkmanagement@swansea.gov.uk with their complaints at the incompetency of the department with regards to this change. I have already done so along with notifying them that I shall be charging them for my time delayed at a substantial rate, should enough people do this then the lights are likely to be removed sooner rather than later.
