“Please help me persuade Avon Coaches to save the bus service ” – San 24

Description

San 24

ALL ON BOARD!

As from 28th April 2013 cuts are being made to No’s 22 & 24 West Kirby/Chester bus service.

• The first bus to Chester (No. 22) – 06:19 a.m. from Heswall Bus Station, 06:39 a.m. from Brook Street Neston is being WITHDRAWN

• The last bus from Chester (No.24) – leaving Chester at 18:35 is being WITHDRAWN

• There will no longer be a bus to Chester for the residents of Burton & Ness, as this service has been re-routed

IMPACT OF WITHDRAWING LAST BUS:
Anyone who cannot reach Chester bus station by 17:35 will be without any means of traveling to Neston and Heswall via public transport (there are no alternate bus or train routes directly to these towns). This severely impacts those employed in Chester, particularly within the retail sector where most shops close between 17:30 and 18:00

IMPACT OF WITHDRAWING FIRST BUS:
This is the only public transport service available to the people of Neston and Heswall that arrives in Chester before 08:32, meaning it is vital for those employed to begin work at 08:00 or who have additional travel beyond the city centre.

IMPACT OF NO LONGER SERVING THE RESIDENTS OF BURTON & NESS:
Prior to the April 28th service cuts Burton and Ness had just five daily (Monday-Saturday) buses to Chester, an already diminished service will be removed completely leaving these villages isolated without any public transport to Chester, their nearest city.

WHY ARE THESE CUTS BEING MADE?
The planned reductions in these bus services are reportedly a consequence of the council’s decision to cut £10,000 from the routes subsidy, prompting the current service provider (Avon Buses) to remove the above listed journeys.

WHAT THE TRUE COST WILL BE:
The cuts set to be implemented impact most severely those in employment, people who cannot drive because of age, disability, or wealth, and sever a vital artery to the local economy. Still further it reduces the scope for workers in South Wirral to find future employment in Chester, their nearest city an important hub for job opportunities. I implore all who read this, who live in the affected areas, to help spare these essential services by showing your support for the campaign by joining this group.

This has caused a problem for myself and others finishing work at 18:00, as there is no alternative transport for the residents of Neston (no alternative bus or train service).

I understand that the decision may be due to cuts in funding but question why a key service relied upon by commuters has to be withdrawn?

In addition to the above changes, I would like to point out that the bus company is no longer serving Burton and Ness. The buses that served these areas have been re-routed to go through Willaston. This leaves the residents of Burton and Ness without a bus to Chester.

One may question why a decision has been made to no longer serve the residents of Ness & Burton and re-route the bus through Willaston. Residents are left isolated without a bus service to Chester.
