“Please help me persuade Transport for London and South West Trains to sort out the lifts at Wimbledon station” – Shaumik Adhya

Description

Shaumik Adhya

The lifts are grim - stained / scratched / smell of urine. They need sorting out. They are used by people who have buggies for young children, disabled people and people with luggage. They should receive a better service - it looks like the lifts haven't been touched for a decade.

    Lifts at Wimbledon station

Hi - the lifts at Wimbledon are dirty, smell of urine and stained. They are also slow. They should be renovated and covered by CCTV so that any vandals can be apprehended

    canned response acknowledging receipt.

Good luck Shaumik - we're only in lifts for a few minutes, but I agree, they should be subject to the same cleaning standards as any other public area. And being enclosed makes the issue worse.

Agreed - these lifts have been horrible for years.

There's a public question time at the next Merton Council meeting in September, and I've submitted a question about whether the Council has liaised with SWT about the state of the lifts. Anthony Fairclough

    Hello,
I noticed you'd had no reply from South West Trains so I've forwarded your message to them, just in case it didn't get to them the first time.

    Hello Shaumik

Still no response from South West Trains? Terrible.

My name is Toby. I'm doing a project supported by Shift.ms into improving accessibility to London transport, particularly regarding the tube.

Do you have any other issues with accessibility? Because I'm trying to gather support to lower the barriers that stop so many people enjoying London.

    Regards, Toby

    Hi Toby
SWT won't respond to FixMyTransport (when I saw that Shaumik had reported this to TfL I reported the lifts to SWT). They are however, currently carrying out some work on one of the lifts.

I am interested in the project on accessibility - the station forecourt has just been re-designed, and two new disabled parking bays seem in a particularly bad place, mixed amongst a taxi rank, and with the nearest way to access the station from them up a flight of stairs . . . Can I email you?

Hi Toby, I've just sent Anthony your email address. Have fun.

I haven't heard anything more from sothwest trains, but the lifts are currently being refurbished - currently platforms 5 and 6 and hopefully the other platforms soon. Toby, in response to your emails, I've never really had access problems until I had a small child and it's made me realise just how awful it is accessing public transport when you have to use a pram. My wife recently tried to get from Wimbledon to Hyde Park and the number of steps at Wimbledon (out of use lifts during refurbishment), steps at Vauxhall for the train and to get down to the tube station, and again at Green Park were horrible!

Excellent news about the lifts, Shaumik. I hope you'll come back and mark this page as 'fixed' if they do get on to all the platforms' lifts.
