Initial problem

Terrible experience on Friday 17th August with respect to the 06:36 train from Mexborough to Sheffield. Very poor communication of delays. Despite several communications claiming only 20min delays to this service, it failed to turn up until 07:25, causing significant knock on effects for my day (i.e cancellation of work meeting). Despite asking the ticket officer what was going on, the information was wholly inadequate at best. His response was "it should have arrived at 06:45". A much better communication service is required to improve my confidence in Northern Rail.
To add to this farce, the return journey was far worse. Cancellation in the afternoon to service with no explanation at all, caused me to abandon the trains, catching a service from Sheffield to Meadowhall (doing on to Leeds via Barnsley), and asking a relative to make the sizable journey to collect me from Meadowhall.
I would very much like some feedback on this issue.
