Initial problem
Whilst using the path alongside the taxi access ramp at Edinburgh Waverley yesterday at around 1840, I was confronted by four of your staff smoking near the covered area. Whilst I have become used to this endeavour around virtually every single entrance to a UK building, it was made more galling that they were partially blocking a busy entrance to the station in your uniform in front of a large number of signs that Network Rail has probably paid quite a packet for stating that staff should not smoke there.
In a time when your staff and their union reps are stating that staff numbers need to be maintained because they offer an extra set of eyes and ears when something goes wrong, it is particularly galling to see their lack of observational skills when they are only on their Personal Needs Break.
May I suggest that a representative from your business or Network Rail regularly patrols this area and deducts £20 from their wallet when caught for a contribution towards staff social funds or charity. This may seem steep but considering that a packet of cigs is now north of £7, this appears incredibly good value considering the loss of respect they earn themselves.
Kind regards
