Initial problem
The 07:21 service from Burnside was cancelled on Monday 29 October. The following service at 07:47 arrived 5 minutes late and was busy becoming overcrowded by King's Park eventually arriving at 08:11. That's 24 minutes for a scheduled 16 minute journey in the 1960's.
Today the 07:21 was 1 minute late at Burnside, arriving 3 minutes late at Central.
What is the problem with keeping to time? The scheduled services are seldom on time arriving at Burnside 1 - 5 minutes late. Burnside is only the second station out from Newton so how come the trains are late after the first 10 minutes or less of their journey?
Finally, the 07:47 is always overcrowded with no seats available after King's Park (sometimes earlier). When will Scotrail re-introduce longer trains to alleviate this problem?

Scot Rail acknowledged the fact that the trains are often late, but say there's not much that they can do about it. They stated they continually review the amount of rolling stock but obviously feel no additional carriages are required. No comment was made regarding my observation that quality and punctuality of service was much poorer than 45 years ago when there were 50% mor trains and double the seating capacity at peak times.

There is no change in regard to overall punctuality. The 07:21 train never departs Burnside Station on time - usually 1 - 5 minutes late daily. The 07:47 is the same and the comments on overcrowding remain true for this service. The overcrowding concerns and to a lesser extent punctuality concerns are equally valid for return journeys on the 17:08 and 17:28 services from Glasgow Central to Newton.
